Binocular vs Telescope question?
I have a set of Alpen 8x40 WA binoculars
I'm starting to be interested in astronomy and am looking for an entry level and cheap way of viewing the sky ( I'm not ready to put a lot of money into this )
I have my eye on two things :
the Tasco 12x50 Zip Focus Binoculars
and the Celestron Firstscope TElescope ( 76 mm apeture, and comes with 2 eyepieces but I dont know what their magnification is )
So, what would be the best improvement over my current pair of Alpen binoculars for ASTRONOMICAL viewing? I don't really care about terrestrial viewing as the Alpen binoculars are just fine for that.
I know the Tasco binoculars are weaker than the telescope, but I hear reflector telescopes like the Firstcope flip an image upside down. On top of that, it's easier to point binoculars in the night sky freely.
SO what would be the better buy and explain exactly why
Why are you worried about an upside down image. All astronomical telescopes show upside down images. There is NO up or down in space.
A reflector is the best bang for the buck in amateur astronomy. Join an Astronomy club first and the members will help you pick out your first telescope. The binoculars will be just fine-- we usually recommend 10x50mm binoculars similar to this one:
