Advantages of a refractor over a newtonian telescope?
Hi, I've recently been getting into amateur astronomy and I currently own a small reflector on a dobsonian mount (less than 4 inches of aperture but not bad for the money) but I've decided to upgrade to something a bit more serious (willing to pay a few hundred dollars), and from what I keep hearing, aperture is everything. It's all about light gathering ability and Newtonian reflectors can be made bigger for less money. So my question is if reflectors boast more aperture, what are the advantages of refractors? Thanks in advance.
None that I can think of other than user preference.
Note that the world's largest telescopes are all reflectors. Large refractors just aren't practical because the lens systems become too big and heavy.
