Got any advice for an opera audition?
I'll be auditioning soon, and I'm wondering if anyone has any pointers. Should it be more like a recital performance (e.g., with minimal "acting"), or should it be more like I'm on stage. Is there anything in particular I should say or not say to the people listening? They said I didn't need a professional photo (just something that looks like me), but do you think I should get a pro head shot done anyway? Other tips?
Please indicate whether your auditioning background is in theatre, opera, musical theatre, &c. Thanks!
Hi...my background in opera (bachelors in vocal performance, professional opera and choral experience).
They have limited time to see who you are, how you sound and what you can do with the repertoire. If you're going to be doing a lot of auditioning, I'd spring for the professional head shot. I think the actual audition should be more like a recital performance which will show off your voice to its fullest. Good luck.
