Can anyone tell me more about portable power sources?
Can anyone tell me more about portable power sources? How much power can the most powerful produce and what do they use for operation? Gasoline? Battery?
Can I use just one to light up a small campsite? What would the power be to do that?
We plan to go camping.

You can get portable generators that run on gasoline or diesel. They have capacities up to 240 vac, 15,000 wats. For a small campsite, you'll want a quiet running generator of about 1200 watts, but it depends upon what you want to run. Lights only? 1200 watt will be fine. Check the operating noise level. It should be as low as possible (60db or less). Some are as loud as a lawn mower. Some have a 12v output to charge a battery.
When my generator fails, if it ever will, I'm going to look at the Honda EU series generators. They're kind of expensive, but they are quieter.
It's best to talk to several dealers, keeping in mind that they will tell you that what they have to offer is the one you need, but that may or may not be true. Take their sales pitch with a grain of salt.
