i just purchased two eyepieces for my 8 inch telescope. What filters should I buy ?
what filters are perfect for a 12 mm nagler and a 2 inch 35 mm panoptic ? I did some research online with a few brands lumicon, televue, and orion has a complete filter set
Nice eyepieces!
I own many different filters, and almost never use any of them. The only one that gets even occasional use is my OIII filter, and it probably wouldn't work too well with only 8 inches aperture -- I'd recommend a narrow band filter like the Lumicon UHC or Orion UltraBlock instead. Unless your 1.25" to 2" adapter has a 2" thread on it, you need to decide which size to get the filter in. I've ended up with both 1.25" and 2" versions of both my OIII and UltraBlock filters.
The main objects I use my OIII filter on are large diffuse nebulae, so I find myself using the 2" filter more often than the 1.25". I particularly like it for the Veil and Helix Nebulae, which are very hard to see without a filter, even at a dark sky site like mine.
I own an array of colour filters, and the only time I ever use them is during oppositions of Mars, and even then I usually prefer the unfiltered views.
